Pune to Mumbai Cab for Wheelchair Users — What to Know
Practical, honest guidance on what GreenEVCabs can and cannot accommodate for wheelchair users on the Pune–Mumbai route — so you can make an informed decision before booking.
Important: Read This First
GreenEVCabs is a passenger cab, not a WAV (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle with a ramp). We can accommodate a folded manual wheelchair in the boot and assist with boarding — but passengers must be able to transfer from wheelchair to cab seat. If a passenger cannot transfer, a specialised accessible vehicle is required.
1. What GreenEVCabs Can Accommodate
GreenEVCabs is a standard premium passenger cab. We are not a specialised accessible transport service — and we think it's more helpful to be honest about this than to oversell our capabilities.
What we can comfortably accommodate: a folded manual wheelchair in the boot, with the passenger seated in the cabin. The Kia Carens EV boot is approximately 570L — one of the largest in its class — and a standard folded manual wheelchair fits comfortably.
Power wheelchairs and large motorised mobility scooters are a different matter. These vary significantly in folded/disassembled dimensions. If you use a power wheelchair, WhatsApp your chair's dimensions before booking and we'll give you an honest answer on whether it fits.
2. The EV Advantage for Mobility-Impaired Passengers
For passengers with mobility impairments, joint pain, post-surgical recovery, or neurological conditions — the type of vehicle matters more than most people assume.
Smooth, vibration-free ride. Diesel engine vibration is particularly hard on passengers with joint pain, arthritis, or surgical wounds. It's not just discomfort — for post-operative passengers, vibration can be genuinely painful. The EV eliminates this. The Kia Carens EV on the Expressway is one of the smoothest 3-hour journeys available on this route.
No diesel fumes. For passengers with respiratory sensitivities — common in older patients and those with certain neurological conditions — air quality in the cabin matters. Zero exhaust is a meaningful benefit.
Quiet cabin. For passengers who need rest during travel — recovering from surgery, managing fatigue conditions, or simply needing a calm environment — the near-silent EV cabin is significantly better than a diesel cab.
3. Kia Carens EV Boot — Dimensions
The Kia Carens EV has approximately 570L of boot space with the rear row in its standard position. A standard folded manual wheelchair — which typically folds to approximately 80–90cm long, 30–35cm wide, and 50–60cm tall — fits comfortably.
If you're travelling with luggage as well as the wheelchair, there's usually enough space for a cabin bag or small suitcase alongside. For larger luggage loads, mention this at booking so we can advise.
If you're unsure whether your specific chair will fit — WhatsApp us the folded dimensions and we'll confirm before you book. We'd rather tell you upfront than leave you uncertain on the day.
4. Boarding Assistance
The driver will assist with boarding — helping carry and fold the wheelchair, opening doors, and providing a stable arm to lean on during transfer. This is standard for every GreenEVCabs booking where a wheelchair is mentioned.
The Kia Carens EV sits at a comfortable entry height — not too low like a sedan, which requires a difficult downward transfer, and not too high like a large SUV. Most passengers with mobility limitations find the entry height manageable, particularly compared to small cars.
If you have specific requirements — a particular side to enter from, needing extra time, needing the driver to wait while a carer assists — mention these when you WhatsApp to book. There's no extra charge for taking the time needed.
5. What to Mention When Booking
To ensure everything is prepared, mention the following when you WhatsApp to book:
- Type of wheelchair — manual folded or power; folded dimensions if you have them
- Any additional equipment — walking frame, oxygen concentrator, IV stand (rare but we want to plan)
- Transfer assistance needed — whether you need the driver to help with boarding or if a carer is accompanying
- Drop-off specifics — hospital entrance gate (Kokilaben, Nanavati, Lilavati, and other Mumbai hospitals have multiple gates and disabled-access entrances), building entrance, or specific facility
- If you need the driver to wait at the destination — this can be arranged with a waiting charge
6. For Post-Surgery and Medical Passengers
Post-operative travel is one of the most common reasons wheelchair users book GreenEVCabs. Patients returning to Pune after surgery at Kokilaben, Nanavati, Lilavati, or Hinduja — or travelling to Mumbai for a follow-up consultation — benefit most from the smooth EV ride.
The combination of no diesel vibration, no exhaust fumes, quiet cabin, and a comfortable entry height makes the Kia Carens EV genuinely the best type of cab for a post-operative passenger on this route. It's not marketing — it's the physics of electric versus diesel vehicles.
For medical passengers, also see our dedicated guide on cab travel for senior citizens — much of the guidance overlaps.
7. What GreenEVCabs Cannot Do
GreenEVCabs is not a WAV — a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle with a hydraulic ramp or lift. We do not have vehicles where a passenger can remain seated in their wheelchair during travel.
If a passenger cannot transfer from their wheelchair to a standard cab seat — due to full paralysis, post-spinal surgery immobility, or other conditions — they require a specialised accessible vehicle. We cannot safely accommodate this, and we'd rather say so directly than take a booking that isn't appropriate.
For WAV services on the Pune–Mumbai route, search for "accessible taxi Pune" or "WAV hire Pune Mumbai" — there are operators who specifically provide ramp-accessible vehicles.
Common Questions
Can a folded wheelchair fit in the boot?
Yes — the Kia Carens EV boot is approximately 570L. A standard folded manual wheelchair fits comfortably. WhatsApp your chair's folded dimensions if unsure and we'll confirm before booking.
Can the driver help with boarding?
Yes — driver will assist with boarding and loading/unloading the wheelchair. The Kia Carens EV has a comfortable entry height — not too low like a sedan. Mention your specific requirements when booking.
Does GreenEVCabs have ramp-accessible vehicles?
No — we do not operate WAVs with ramps. Passengers must be able to transfer from their wheelchair to the cab seat with assistance. If you cannot transfer, please contact a specialised accessible taxi service.
Is an EV smoother for passengers with joint pain or post-surgery?
Yes — significantly. No diesel engine vibration, quiet cabin, smooth ride. Most post-operative and medical passengers specifically request EV cabs. The difference compared to diesel cabs is noticeable, especially for passengers with joint pain, arthritis, or recent surgery.
